Get Cheaper Flights for Nearby Airports With Google Flights
If you are not sure if you will find the best flight deal and want to better understand all the options available, Google Flights has released a new update that will make finding cheap flights a little easier.
Using Google Flights, you may have already noticed pop-up alerts showing the nearest airports. As first reported by Thrifty Traveler and then confirmed by The Points Guy , these alerts were recently added by Google to help you find cheaper deals at nearby airports that you might not be looking specifically for.
This is how the popup usually appears:
If you choose to change the airport, you will find a suggested route as well as other options from that airport (in case you want to view other available flights). Ultimately, this tool comes in handy if you live in a large city with access to several nearby airports and are not sure if it is beneficial to you. (Before the upgrade you can still search several airports at the same time, but with the help of Google alerts ensure that you do not miss more than a cheap, if one exists.)
As part of the broader set of Google updates, you’ll also see warnings pop up if there are cheaper flights that require some adjustments to your travel dates. Together, these tools can help you avoid overspending on flights, especially if you are flexible with your plans.
And if you stumble upon an airline you’ve never heard of while searching – have you ever heard of Bearskin Airlines? – here’s what to consider before booking.
