Run Web Applications and Services From These “.new” Sites
Google recently announced that it is releasing a new domain name – .new – with one tricky hitch. Those who buy one should use it to create a shortcut to an action, action, or app. Or, as Google puts it, “all .new domain names should be used to create actions or creation flows on the web.”
As the editor of Lifehacker, I love the concept of these .new domains because they make it easy to do annoying things like uploading a new document to Google Drive. What used to be a multi- step process has now been shortened to URL: docs.new . Click this link or type it into the address bar by pressing Enter and you will see a blank Google Doc. I think it’s even faster than running Microsoft Word on the desktop.
While the limited registration period for .new domain names doesn’t start until December 2 , there are already a few useful options out there. Here are the most interesting ones we’ve dug up and the services they are associated with – let us know in the comments if you find anything else!
