Your Samsung Device May Now Receive Less Frequent Software Updates
Android users can confidently expect new security patches to be released from Google on a regular basis, but the exact time depends on your device. Google products like the Pixel line usually get new fixes every month, while Android phones from other manufacturers may differ.
If you’re a Samsung user, your device’s update schedule may have just changed as Samsung recently changed the patching schedule that adds the latest releases to the list and changes the update schedule for some of its older Android devices.
Owners of the latest released Samsung devices, including the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy A50 that have been added to Samsung’s roster, can still expect to receive important monthly Android security updates. Samsung has shifted some of its older Android models to receive quarterly updates only, while the Galaxy A20 smartphone lineup and the Galaxy Tab A 8 and Tab Active Pro tablets are joining a handful of other devices to only receive updates as needed. base. In addition, Samsung has discontinued security updates for the Galaxy A5 and A3 smartphones and the Galaxy Tab S2 Refresh tablet models.
