Find Out How Your Local Representative Feels About Impeachment
In case you’ve missed the news this week – and avoided social media entirely – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Tuesday a formal investigation into the impeachment of President Trump. The announcement came in response to Trump’s phone call to the Ukrainian president and a larger complaint from a White House insider / informant.
As of Wednesday, just over 200 House Democrats and one Republican spokesman have publicly supported the impeachment investigation. (According to the New York Times , at least 71 Democrats have spoken in support since Monday alone.)
Do you want to know what is the position of your representative in connection with impeachment? Take a look at the Need to Impeach website and map, enter your postcode or address and you will find out your representative’s position.
Unsurprisingly, if you live in an area represented by a Republican leader, you can pretty much assume that your representative does not support impeachment (unless you live in the area of Michigan Representative Justin Amash). If your representative does not support impeachment – or remains stranded or otherwise silent on the issue – there is also a script on the website that you can use to contact your representative seeking support.
As the number of supporters literally grows by the minute, if you are curious about the position of each representative at the moment, you can also check the list of supporters and opponents of the New York Times .
While the Democratic House of Representatives is likely to vote in favor of impeachment, this will require as much support from Congress as possible, especially when it comes to the Senate. As of Wednesday, only 17 Democratic senators have spoken in support of impeachment proceedings; Many of them, unsurprisingly, are current presidential candidates in the 2020 race, including Elizabeth Warren , Bernie Sanders , Kamala Harris, and Corey Booker .
