How to Get Verizon to Block Robotic Calls for You
After endless customer complaints, service providers are taking steps to reduce – and hopefully eliminate – the current inconvenience of robot calls. Verizon customers can download a free spam filter that blocks robotic calls on iOS and Android , but some Android users now automatically sign up to the service (no additional app downloads required).
While only certain Android devices are eligible for automatic blocking, you can check the list here . If you are using any of Verizon’s unlimited plans on a qualifying device, you are now automatically enrolled in Call Filter, and many Android phones purchased directly from Verizon will come with a Call Filter app pre-loaded (which you can use to auto-register. if you haven’t registered anyway.) It’s unclear if you want or need the app to be installed in this case, but it doesn’t hurt.
Prepaid Android devices and all iOS users regardless of their plan will need to manually download the Verizon Call Filter app to access the spam service.
After activating the Verizon Call Filter for your account, your phone will send suspicious robot calls and other spam directly to your voicemail, and any numbers that have been filtered will be listed as “potential spam”. Users can configure the severity of the Call Filter in the Call Filter application settings. There is also a premium version of the app that requires a $ 2.99 monthly subscription that gives you access to other privacy tools like creating a custom block list.
Verizon isn’t the only company offering robotic call blocking services: AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile all have their own tools . Likewise, there are several third-party apps available , and Android and iOS users also have several spam reduction options enabled on their devices.
