How to Check If Your Internet Has Enough Speed to Stream Netflix in 4K
If you want to be able to stream 4K Ultra HD content from Netflix, you will not only need a high-definition TV, but also a fast internet connection.
Netflix claims that for a single 4K stream, you will need an internet speed of at least 25 Mbps. Most households in the United States probably have this, but if you only pay for lower tier services from your provider, your bandwidth may be close to that limit.
Many providers have a 30 Mbps speed limit for their entry-level connections. When you are streaming something in SD, you only need 3 Mbps, and Full HD only needs 5 Mbps, which means the stream can go on while other people in your family are streaming the show in another room or playing video games using your internet connection. At 25Mbps, you’ll need most of your home’s bandwidth for 4k streaming.
To help you figure it out, Netflix has a speed test tool that lets you know what your internet speed is. You can find it here .
The tool said my internet speed was 59Mbps, which is hardly enough for my boyfriend and me to stream different 4K shows at the same time, but it could actually happen.
If you’re having trouble streaming 4K content from Netflix, or just want to know how fast your internet is, this is a simple tool.
