How to Jailbreak an IPhone or IPad Running IOS 12.4
Jailbreak iPhone – removing Apple’s restrictions that prevent you from installing any apps you want on your device, or tampering with settings that Apple would otherwise block – isn’t for everyone. It can be risky at first and void your warranty, but it’s a great way to extend the life of an older device or something you don’t carry with you for day-to-day use.
Apple has made this process a lot more complicated over the years, so the recent revelations that there is a pretty easy jailbreak for iOS 12.4 (Apple’s latest version of iOS) is pretty exciting. At least you now have a small window to jailbreak your updated device before Apple releases iOS 12.4.1 to fix an iOS 12.2 vulnerability it didn’t accidentally fix – hence the reborn jailbreak technique.
You will be using the popular unc0ver tool to jailbreak your device. And you’ll want to check outone of the many video tutorials that have arrived for iOS 12.4, as hacking your head can be a little trickier if you’ve never done it before.
Start by making sure you are using iOS 12.4, which you can check through your device’s Settings > General> About screen. It looks like the jailbreak only works for devices using A7 – A11 chips, so you won’t be able to jailbreak your new iPhone XS, XS Max or XR, or the 2019 iPad Mini or iPad Air, which all use A12 chips.
Assuming your device meets the requirements, you will want to download Cydia Impactor and the latest Undecimus .IPA. Unzip and launch Cydia Impactor, then connect your iPhone or iPad to your Windows PC or Mac. Make sure your computer “trusts” your device, or vice versa if you haven’t already allowed it.
Drag the downloaded .IPA into the Undecimus app and then enter your Apple ID and password. After the jailbreak is installed on your device, open “Settings” on your device, click on “General” and click on “Manage device” (which should be in the “Profile” and “VPN” section). Click on your Apple ID and select the option to “trust” the same email address.
From there, turn off Siri (using the top three options under Siri and search for your Settings app), turn on Airplane Mode, and then use your device’s buttons to turn it off . Turn it back on. Once downloaded, run the unc0ver application. Press the big blue Jailbreak button. Cross your fingers. When prompted to restart your device, do so and then launch the unc0ver app and press the Jailbreak button again. Repeat this process one more time when your device restarts, which should install the unofficial Cydia app store on your device.
I have not used this jailbreak myself, so I cannot confirm first-hand anything else you need to do in order for it to keep working. As iClarified writes for earlier iOS versions:
- This is a semi-tethered jailbreak, so you will need to launch unc0ver and hit Jailbreak on every reboot.
- If you don’t have a developer account, you will need to re-download the unc0ver app every seven days.
We never said it was easy to break into a prison. However, that’s the price you pay to jailbreak your iPhone or iPad to run whatever you want.
