Peach Liqueur Made for Shrubs
Peach liqueur is a tricky business. With a luscious, banal image and candy-like taste, it requires a delicate hand. (Feeling whimsical doesn’t hurt either.) But if you can press the reset button in your brain and forget about the nightmares of having sex on the beach, you’ll find that it works out pretty well in certain situations, especially if those situations involve sour, scared bushes.
Some of you know that shrubs are a very effective way to use up a lot of berries, but you can find them in some grocery stores. Drinking vinegars (often) with a fruity flavor are more astringent than sweet ones, and a berry bush (such as a blackberry) provides just enough acid to balance the more syrupy qualities of the peach liqueur. Combine a little of each drink with two ounces of bourbon for a strong but summer punch-like fruity drink. However, stirring is necessary. This drink is savory without proper dilution, so stir, stir, stir and serve over ice. To make it you will need:
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 1/2 ounce peach liqueur such as Combier
- 1/2 ounce blackberry bush , homemade or store bought
Pour everything into a mixing glass completely filled with ice and stir for longer than you think. Your stirring spoon should make at least 75 rounds of the glass. Strain into lowball with fresh ice and enjoy.
