How to Get Your Spotify Home Screen Widget Back to Android
As a longtime Spotify user, I grab my digital pitchfork and join the masses of Android users who are unhappy with the latest Spotify update , which removes the Android home screen widget, making it incredibly useful for playing and pausing songs from your smartphone screens.
While I doubt the widget is non-refundable (no matter how many online petitions you sign), there is a way to enjoy the final minutes with it. I wouldn’t classify this hack as a long term solution, but it is at least a way to enjoy the widget until you switch to another service.
Please uninstall the Spotify app on Android first . I realize this sounds like something you don’t want to do, but you’ll soon see what I mean.
Second, you need to open the Google Play app , tap the hamburger icon, tap Settings, and set the Auto-update apps option to Don’t update apps automatically. Again, this Spotify hack is not a long-term solution as automatically updating your apps is an incredibly handy (and security-focused) feature, but this trick will help you say goodbye to the widget that you miss so badly.
Third, you’ll want to take the unorthodox move by downloading Chrome and downloading an old version of Spotify .APK (like 8.15.16.178) from another website . I really don’t recommend doing this unless you know and trust the website in question, as you will never know if someone has changed the seemingly official app you are about to download – a fact that your device will always be about. to warn you when you download .APK and try to download (install) it on your Android via the Files app.
If you are really mad about this widget, then you will have to make these sacrifices.
Install the old version of Spotify and you can place the widget on any screen again. More importantly, you will be able to access and play your music seamlessly. Of course, don’t manually update the app, or the widget will disappear.
I cannot guarantee how long you will be able to use the old version of Spotify before you have to update. That, plus having an updated app, is a great way to take advantage of the latest feature and security updates, so you probably won’t want to stick with this trick for very long.
However, a widget is a widget, and at least it will give you extra time with your favorite feature until you’re ready to say goodbye forever.
