Beware of Fraudulent Equifax-Settlement Sites

A class action website will never win an award for being perfect. These sites are often so rudimentary in comparison to the pleasant experience you had when paying for a company’s goods or services that you might doubt that you are even in the right place. Can you trust him with your personal information?

This is the same question the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wants you to ask before you try to get your part of the Equifax settlement. Clumsy design is actually the norm for settlement websites, which are hastily created by settlement administrators. But scammers also hide on the net, hoping that you will fall into one of their (probably also poorly designed) traps. The commission warned in a blog post last week that fake Equifax claims settlement websites emerged after the credit bureau paid $ 425. millionth settlement with the FTC.

The main thing to know before filing a claim? You don’t have to give a cent. “You never have to pay to apply for these benefits. And anyone who calls and tries to get you to file a lawsuit is almost certainly a scammer, ”writes Michael Athleson on the FTC blog .

If you haven’t visited the Equifax Settlement Website yet, you can find it here (and nowhere else): www.equifaxbreachsettlement.com. If you want to be more confident that you are in the right place, you can visit the FTC Settlement page and read about your options before going to the settlement site. This site can be found here .

The FTC frequently updates its website with information about fraud of all kinds , so if you are not sure if you are filing a claim in the right place, you can always head there to make sure you are not being fooled.
