What’s the Best Local Food in Your City?
Some cities know what their food is good and are proud of it. You can’t visit New York without eating a bagel, or Paris without a croissant, or Los Angeles without tacos. Some local dishes are more infamous than famous: Philadelphia’s cheese steak, pizza for a deep dish in Chicago. But anyone can tell you what food you need to eat while you are in town. These products go beyond any restaurant or overpriced bakery. These are foods that can be ordered all over the city, foods that can be tasted in ten different ways before leaving the city.
In my hometown of Rochester, the most famous dish is the Trash Plate : a Putin-like dish of meat, potatoes, and pasta salad invented for drunken schoolchildren. But more respectfully, Rochester is also home to a white hot , uncured, unsmoked hot dog with mustard and spices, usually made from a higher quality meat than the typical red hot. This is the one thing you should definitely eat while you are in the city.
So tell us what is the best food your city has invented or perfected? Where is this popular tourist spot to buy it and where is a good option? And is the dish really that good? Tell us below (don’t forget to name your city!) And we’ll put the best answers in the Personnel tab.
