Use a Short Mantra to Stick to Your Goals
Many of us know that the phrase “phone, wallet, keys” before walking out the door can remind us of something we don’t want to leave behind. Well, it turns out that developing similar mantras for other areas of our lives can help us focus on our goals.
As psychotherapist Amy Morin explains at Inc .:
When you’re full of self-doubt or your brain tempts you to give in, it’s hard to resist. Thinking, “But it’s going to be delicious,” or “You deserve it,” it is difficult to stay strong.
One of the best ways to silence these thoughts is to develop a mantra that you can repeat over and over.
Ideally, this mantra should be short, energetic, and motivating. Maureen quotes a woman she worked with who started saying “self-respect” every time she felt like texting her ex-boyfriend. (It should be noted that you do not need to recite the mantra out loud .)
I have several mantras that I use in my life, and they really are “phone, wallet, keys” that remind me of who I am . If you had similar mantras, did they help you stick to your goals and values?
