Don’t Get Yourself a Sunburn Tattoo
I hate to discourage people from doing something simple, quirky, and almost free. But here’s the thing: it’s best not to get yourself a sunburn tattoo. Or let the kids get tan tattoos for themselves.
The idea is to stick the sticker on your skin and then sit in the sun long enough to get sunburned. Remove the sticker to expose the paler skin underneath, and voila, your skin will have a semi-permanent design. Great idea! I respect that!
But the only way to make it work is if you get a sunburn (or at least a very deep tan). Yes, all of us people with pale skin have sunburn in the past, but each one increases the risk of skin cancer throughout our lives. Cancer Research UK notes that getting a burn every two years increases the risk of melanoma threefold .
Your risk is not because of the pink color, but because of the sun. This means that if you are a little more careful and get yourself a deep tan instead of a burn, you are not really much better. Will a single sunburn (or tanning) tattoo kill you? No. But doing it on purpose is stupid. If you really like the look, you can always stick on a sticker and simulate a tan with a tanning product .
