Cool Down Your Car Faster With the Air Recirculation Button
You can direct the conditioner to your body, legs, or both. You can increase it from cool to very cold. But in the summer heat, if you don’t use the car’s air recirculation button, you won’t get the coolest driving experience.
We’ve all seen the button – it looks like a vehicle with a flying arrow in the center – and we probably press it from time to time. But there are very specific times when a button is useful and specific times when it isn’t.
Use it when getting into a hot car.
When you first get into a stuffy car and start the air conditioner, press the air recirculation button as well. This will allow the now slightly cooler air from the car to be recirculated and cool it even more, instead of drawing in more hot air from the outside. This process cools your vehicle faster than using the normal fresh air mode.
However, once the air reaches a cool enough temperature, you can turn off the recirculation button to prevent the air in the car from becoming too stagnant. If you come across a particularly dusty area or find yourself behind a bus spewing exhaust fumes, you can prevent odors from entering your car by temporarily turning recirculation on until you walk past.
Do not use it in winter
Recirculation traps moisture inside the vehicle; in winter, which means fogging windows. So a good rule of thumb is not to use the air recirculation button at all if you are using your car’s heater.
If you don’t have this button in your car, don’t worry. Chances are, you are in a new model car that is equipped with sensors that monitor the humidity level inside the car. It does all the work for you, switching between fresh and recirculated air as needed.
