How to Watch SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy Launch Launch on Monday
On Monday night, SpaceX will attempt the “most difficult launch in history” of Falcon Heavy, its first night launch of a spacecraft that will send multiple satellites into orbit.
Also on board will be Lightsail 2, a solar sail test mission currently being promoted by Bill Nye. The spacecraft will be the first to propel exclusively sunlight. Japanese spacecraft Ikaros previously used solar sail, but Lightsail will be the first to run exclusively on solar technology. I’ll let Bill explain it:
In addition, Falcon Heavy will also launch a Deep Space atomic clock into orbit, which could potentially be used to help future spacecraft navigate to distant destinations.
If you want to watch what is happening, you need to stay up late. The Falcon Heavy is expected to launch at 11:30 pm ET / 8:30 pm PT. The event will be streamed live on the NASA website as well as on You Tube (embedded below).
If you skip it, you can also watch the footage of the event on NASA’s YouTube channel later this week.
