Make Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Faster With This Hack
Game developer Niantic officially released Harry Potter: Wizards Unite on Thursday afternoon for iOS and Android, meaning people like me (and maybe you) spent their lunch break playing wizard and collecting magical creatures. things and people scattered around the city.
If you’ve played this game before, you’ve probably made one important observation: it’s very slow.
My lunchtime gameplay started right after the game aired, which means a lot of wizard-like wannabes flocked to the app to sign up and took to the streets to find out what the game was about. With a ton of people playing at the same time, it puts a little load on the game servers. While the game didn’t crash like it did in Pokémon Go , it ran very slowly.
If you are having the same problem, you can easily fix the problem by downloading the game resources to your phone. The game will still need to connect to Niantic’s servers while you play, but the amount of data that needs to be transferred to your device will be much smaller, allowing the game to run much faster.
The ability to download game resources is not obvious. To find it, you need to study the game settings quite deeply. First, make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi so you don’t get huge data charges for downloading resources while you’re on the go.
- After loading the game, click on the suitcase at the bottom center of the screen.
- On the next screen, tap the gear in the upper left corner to open the settings menu.
- At the bottom of the settings menu, there is an option “Load all assets”. Click on it to download all the resources for the game to your phone.
Loading all the resources at once means you don’t have to download as many while you’re on the go, which could potentially make the game a little faster.
After loading, I noticed a lot less latency when loading Foundables and the game generally performed much better. Of course, the number of people using the app could have decreased in an hour or two between my initial launch and the resource loading, but for the sake of argument, I give the download a credit.
While in this settings menu, you can also tweak a number of other things in the app; you can, among other things, turn off music or sound effects, and manage notifications. I personally chose to disable the opening sequence. While you’re loading resources, dig in and see what else you might want to tweak before returning to rocking this virtual wand.
