Find Out That the Item You Are Buying Is Available on Goodwill Using This Extension

Sometimes you want to purchase a new item rather than a used one. However, there are a number of things in which a used version is as good as buying a new one. Goodwill Shopping is a Chrome extension that can help you find them.

The Chrome extension pays attention to what you buy on popular sites like Walmart, Amazon, and Jet and tells you when the item you’re looking for is available for sale on ShopGoodwill.com at a lower price .

The idea, of course, is that you could consider buying a used item from Goodwill rather than shelling out the full price to buy the item through a traditional retailer.

For now, the extension appears to only search the inventory of Goodwill Industries in Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (this website has 6 million monthly visits). This also (obviously) doesn’t work for everything, so if you click on it and it doesn’t have an item available it will just load the Goodwill shopping page, not the page for the item you’re looking for.

One thing I also learned from trying out the extension: Goodwill has auctions.

If you go to ShopGoodwill.com directly, the site has a lot of different items to bet on, including a pretty decent amount of antique jewelry and watches. While you are probably unlikely to find the item you bought at Walmart available at auction, this feature can be a great way to close a deal on a few things that you may not have realized you wanted (and perhaps not ) at the first place.
