Comparison of the New Galaxy A50 With the Galaxy S10, S10 + and S10e
Samsung recently announced that the Galaxy A50 will finally hit the US market . This mid-range smartphone will be a more affordable alternative to Samsung’s flagship S10 series devices such as the S10, S10 + and S10e. The A50 will also be followed by even cheaper versions of the A20 and A10e, but Samsung has yet to announce a release date.
Since there are so many Galaxy smartphone models available, each with their own set of features and functions, we’ve decided to put together a quick guide to help you see the differences between everything you can buy now (or soon).
A50 vs. S10, S10 + and S10e
The A50 belongs to the S10 line, as the Pixel 3a belongs to the Pixel 3 and 3XL – it’s a more affordable version of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy models with slightly different specs and sizes. While some of the S10’s features have been dropped from the A50, the result is more room for a larger battery (and the device costs less). Here’s how the A50’s specs stack up against its S10 older siblings:
Representation
The A50 will look and feel identical to the S10 out of the box, as each of these phones runs Android Pie with Samsung One’s own user interface layered on top. However, the S10 series has the edge when it comes to performance. While the A50 uses the Exynos 9610 chip, the S10 family is powered by themore powerful Snapdragon 855 chip. Similarly, the 8GB of RAM in the S10 and S10 + is double the A50’s 4GB. (Even the S10e outperforms the 6GB A50.)
The A50 also has half the internal storage (64GB) than the three S10 phones, although you can at least expand that with a microSD card. All in all, this means you’ll face longer app load times and potentially worse performance on demanding mobile games on the A50 versus the S10, but it’s also a thing you probably wouldn’t have thought of if you didn’t compare the two. side by side.
One area where the A50 shines is in the battery. Its 4000mAh battery is slightly more powerful than the 3400mAh S10 and 3100mAh S10e, and almost matches the 4100mAh battery in the S10 +. What you lose in little productivity, you gain additional uptime.
Display
In terms of display, the A50 has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2340-by-1080-pixel resolution. It’s the same size as the Galaxy S10 + and larger than the S10’s 5.1-inch screen, but the A50’s resolution is lower than the 3040-by-1440-pixel displays on both smartphones. The A50’s display looks more like the S10e’s display than anything else, although this model has the smallest screen of all at just 5.8 inches.
In addition, the A50 uses an “Infinity-U” display, which Samsung says uses a small notch for the front camera. It’s much smaller than the notch on an iPhone or Pixel 3XL, and its position – directly in the center of the top of the display – gives Samsung a little more flexibility, allowing for more display space (and a smaller bezel). That said, it’s a bit annoying compared to the hole-punch design of the S10.
Camera
When it comes to cameras, the A50 doesn’t slouch. This is definitely putting pressure on the Pixel 3a with its excellent camera setup in a mid-range device. The A50 doesn’t have as many camera features on paper as the S10 trio, such as optical image stabilization, but it does include an impressive 25MP main camera on the back, as well as an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 5MP depth lens, as well as as well as a 25-megapixel front-facing “selfie camera”.
By comparison, the S10 has a 12MP main camera, a 12MP telephoto lens and a 16MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 10MP front-facing selfie camera. The S10 + adds an additional 8MP depth camera on the front. The S10e only has two cameras on the back, 12MP wide-angle and 16MP ultra-wide, and one 10MP lens on the front.
The biggest disadvantage of the A50 is that its aperture is fixed at f / 1.7, while all devices in the S10 line have variable apertures of f / 1.4 and f / 2.4. That said, f / 1.7 is not bad, and you probably won’t notice the difference between it and f / 1.4 for most shots. Plus, the S10 starts at $ 800, the S10 + starts at $ 900, and the S10e starts at $ 750. The A50 only costs $ 350 and you’d be hard-pressed to find smartphones with the same price and such a good camera setup that aren’t called the “Pixel 3a.”
