When you book your summer beach vacation, make sure you pay attention to the type of room you are booking.

Business Insider spoke with business entertainment consultant Jeff Russell this week about some of the travel scams. The main ones are things like complying with resort fees and other mandatory surcharges, or being careful about deals that seem too good to be true. He also suggested one thing that I rarely pay attention to: make sure you understand the language used to describe your room, and during your beach vacation, make sure you understand which “view” you are signing up for.

“Ocean view” simply means there is at least a slice of view from the room, Russell told Business Insider. “The ocean view room actually faces the ocean.”

It is also worth asking again at the front desk when you check in. When I called and asked in the parking lot, I was immediately transferred to a room with the best view. In my case, they had the opportunity, all I had to do was ask.
