Check Your Parking Performance With the IPhone Measure App
If you keep your car outdoors and not in a garage, then one of the most common headaches is not being parked too close to a fire hydrant.
Hydrant laws differ from city to city, but in New York (where I park my car on the street) you need to be at least 15 feet away, which you can estimate as about one car length. If there seems to be enough space between you and the hydrant to park your car, you probably wo n’t get your ticket. May be.
But if you want to finally make sure you’re actually parked at the right distance – and still ensure you have proof in case you get the wrong ticket – always use the measurement app on your phone. Set one point on the hydrant, one point on the rear wheel or bumper, and make sure they are at least the correct distance. Take a screenshot and save it until you leave the car, presumably without tickets.
