Use Google As an Instant Tomato Timer

The Pomodoro for Productivity Technique sounds cool, but you can fall into the same trap I did: you read about setting timers to get work done and then research the best Pomodoro timer and then head to the store for a physical timer and then you try some browser extensions and … you wasted an hour. But not at this time. This time, you’ll read this blog post, click the link and get started right away.

The Pomodoro Technique works as follows:

  1. Set a timer for, say, 25 minutes.
  2. Start working and don’t stop.
  3. When the timer ends, take a 5 minute break.
  4. Repetition.

You can take a longer break every four cycles, but this is the main method. And as Google expert Ben Collins points out, you can start a Pomodoro loop with a single search:

It’s even easier than that. Google “set a timer for 25 minutes” (or click this link) and Google will start counting down.

If you accidentally try to close a tab while the timer is running, your browser will warn you. When the timer expires, it will beep until you press the Stop button.

Okay, start the timer and get to work!
