To Soothe Colds, Add Raw Garlic to the Soup
Whether or not there is real science behind it, many people swear raw garlic cures disease. Some of my friends and family actually eat raw cloves to relieve symptoms.
Although I love garlic, it’s too much for me. So when my annual spring cold hit last week, I tried something different: I rubbed cloves right into every bowl of soup I ate. Not only was it much nicer than a slice of raw crunchy garlic, but it was also delicious : everything from homemade chicken broth to instant miso to an ancient pack of kimchi ramen instantly became more savory, even when raw was enough. a bite of garlic to (temporarily) clear sinuses. Did it instantly cure what was bothering me? Well, no, but it really eased my suffering – and when it comes to a cold, it’s the best you can hope for.
