How to Raise Children in Japan
Shima and Jenny live in Tokyo with their two young daughters, Velvet Jean and Birdie Moon. Shima was born and raised in Japan, while Jenny grew up near Chicago and moved to Japan 10 years ago. I spent a day with my family to learn about all the wonderful things about parenting in the city. We talked about the culture of bathing (Jenny’s favorite thing about life in Japan), how Japanese parents promote independence (many young children go to school alone), and the importance of letting their kids take risks.
