How to Host a Cookbook Sharing Party
Admit it: you are stuck in a rut. Last night was tacos Tuesday, today meatloaf and baked chicken Thursday. Again.
We’ve all been there. Even my 8 year old child gets tired of my menu. Just the other day, he said: “ Again spaghetti and cutlets? We have this every week. ” (To which I very kindly and maturely replied, “Then start loving something other than spaghetti, hot dogs and pizza, and I’ll change that a little, mmm?”)
It’s not that you have few cookbooks; in fact, you have a ridiculous repository of them. You just went through them a hundred times and already bookmarked three recipes that you like, and the rest are just swing . Or they have ingredients that you usually don’t have on hand. Or are these recipes that an 8-year-old child will not eat.
Solution: Host a cookbook sharing party.
The cookbook party is the crossroads where the average book club and the annoying exchange of gifts in the office collide in the most beautiful way. You don’t need to read anything , and you go home with something useful.
Fundamental rules
Here are the official cookbook swap party rules that I come up with as I write this:
1. Invite two – or rather more – people . You will need at least three people to do this, but the more you invite, the better choice you will have.
2. Everyone can bring as many cookbooks as they want. No matter how much you bring, that’s how much you can take.
3. Don’t take all your little cadets with you. Those little seasonal “books” (they look more like magazines) that you find in line at the grocery store do not count. Okay, you can go and fetch them in case someone needs tons of Halloween dessert ideas, but they don’t count towards your book’s total. Bring good books.
4. Bookmark your favorite recipes. This is polite to the next owner of the book and will help you remember to make a copy of yourself before returning it to your home.
5. Serve snacks and drinks. Because it’s a party.
At the end of the cookbook swap party, you will have a fun evening and be armed with new ideas for dinner.
