Read Movie Scripts With Your Child
My 6-year-old child and I are happy to read a series of children’s books called “You read to me, I will read to you.” These books are designed so that two people take turns reading different parts, such as a script. We sit side by side playing different characters and uttering all the silly voices (I’m waiting for Academy approval for my role as the Big Bad Wolf). It was fun and I thought we should start reading real scripts eventually.
Reading scenes from movie scripts – and acting them out if you like it – can be a great way to attract kids, including reluctant readers and those who like to move. Scenarios films are widely available on the Internet – there are several databases containing hundreds or thousands of items, including the base scenarios, films in Internet (IMSDb) , database scripts and of The the Daily Script .
I would start with a movie that your child is familiar with, choose a simple scene with two characters, and then assign the parts (if you have three people, one of you can be the narrator and read the scene notes). Here are some snippets of scenes that can be found on the Internet.
Frozen

Toy story

Kung Fu Panda

After reading, you and your child can try swapping parts, memorize lines, add props, or recreate the scene as a time-lapse animation . Or you can teach your child to write their own script. Screencraft has a great guide to get you started.
