How to Celebrate National Space Day
Go outside tonight, gaze up at the sky and – if you’re in an area with low light pollution – enjoy the starry view. Because guys, today is National Space Day .
In honor of the holiday, Fast Company has compiled a list of all “major astrophysics, aerospace and even entertainment events” from now until the end of the year.
The first is the Eta Aquariids meteor shower on Monday, which is a cloud of debris from Halley’s comet that we pass each year, causing an annual downpour. It is already raining but is expected to peak on the morning of May 6th.
(You can browse the rest of the Fast Company listing , which includes more meteor showers, a total solar eclipse in South America, and the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing.)
National Space Day is celebrated by everyone on the first Friday of May, in particular to keep kids interested in math, science, technology and engineering. So if you have kids, tonight is going to be a good night to debunk these amazing NASA websites , do some science experiments, or even just some good old fashioned glowing games .
If all else fails, it is probably no coincidence that National Astronautics Day falls on a Friday. The only thing better than a little stargazing at the end of the week is a cocktail just right for the occasion. Let me recommend “Cosmonaut” :
Hooray to space!
