Buy Your Child Clothes They Love but You Hate
What clothes do you choose for a kindergarten that asks you to pack them in your child’s diaper bag? I used to go for something old or ugly because why would I want to take a perfectly good shirt and pants out of the wash cycle?
But one day the preschool teacher told me that when children have an accident at school, they are already frustrated, upset and embarrassed. Wearing the wrong school spare clothes isn’t fun at all, and getting your hands on your unloved clothes isn’t much better.
One day while doing the laundry, I had an epiphany: my son had a shirt that he loved but I hated. He was wearing ninja turtles (his favorite), but terrible color, badly faded, and every time I saw it, I felt like throwing it in the trash. It was the perfect shirt to put in his bag.
This is now my policy for all baby bags, and maybe it should be yours too. Obviously, you can’t do this with the kids’ much loved clothes if they are upset to find that they are missing from their closet. But this one is ugly and they like it for no good reason? Let it brighten up their day the next time they have an accident.
