How to Use Google Assistant’s Tell Me a Story Feature on Your Smartphone
Starting today, you can take the Google Assistant’s Tell Me A Story feature with you on the road.
This feature was launched for Google Home last year and allows you to say “Ok Google, tell me a story” to get Google Home, Mini, Hub or Max to tell your child a quick story. The same feature is now available for iOS and Android devices.
To get it, you just need to make sure you have the latest version of Google Assistant installed on your device.
When you have the latest version installed, hearing a story is as easy as saying on your phone, “Ok Google tell me a story,” or “Ok Google, tell me a bedtime story,” if you’re trying to convince kids to sleep. already.
Google is launching this feature this week ahead of National Story Day on April 27th.
Of course, you can still ask your Google Home to tell you a story. Google Home also has a feature called Read Together, which will play sound effects for some books as you read them. It was originally launched last October but hasn’t received much attention.
For the sound effects feature to work, you must have one of the supported books , which are all Disney Little Golden Books. Sounds sync up as you read, and you can move back and forth with you, or even pause while you chat about what you just read. Although the concept is simple, I think if it was somewhere when I was a child it would amaze me. Here’s a video of how it works:
Once you have one of the supported books, you activate this feature by saying, “Ok Google, let’s read with Disney.”
This feature only works on Google Home devices, not smartphones, but it works for a variety of Disney games, including classics like Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland, as well as new favorites like Frozen, Coco, and Moana. …
At the very least, the Tell Me Story feature on your mobile phone can help you keep your kids entertained for a few extra minutes on their next shopping trip.
