How to Schedule Emails With the New Gmail Feature
Inbox for Gmail may be dead , but Google is at least making efforts to improve the core of Gmail, and since Google’s last update for the email service, you no longer have to rely on third-party Chrome extensions to schedule your messages.
Prior to this feature, Gmail users had to rely on third-party apps or extensions like Boomerang or IFTTT to schedule their messages at a later time, although recent changes have removed support for IFTTT. Fortunately, Gmail’s built-in scheduling feature is simpler than installing a third-party extension, and is more elegantly integrated into the Gmail interface.
Gmail has also recently added other features once unique to extensions like Boomerang, including the ability to snooze conversations or set up automatic follow-up reminders, although Boomerang still has useful additions like the ability to pause your inbox or enable message tracking. … Hopefully more of these features will be added to Gmail in the future. For now, here’s how to schedule email, whether you’re using the web client or the Gmail mobile app.
- First you need to wait for the feature to roll out on your device, which may take a while. If you are using the Gmail app , double check for pending updates.
- Once the feature becomes available, write your message as usual. When you’re ready to schedule, click the arrow next to the blue Send to PC button and click Schedule Send. A pop-up menu will appear with preset schedule options such as tomorrow morning, although you can also set a specific date and time.
- On your mobile device, tap the more icon with three dots next to the send arrow, then tap Schedule Send. A new menu will appear where you can choose when you want to send a message.
- You can change the delivery time of a scheduled message by opening the message and following the steps above to change the date and / or time.
