Diversify Your Stock Photos With the Broadly’s Gender Spectrum Collection.
Stock photography tends to lag behind culture. They fill business photos with only men, or they don’t represent minorities enough, or they only show people playing outdated cultural roles. This is a problem we often run into on Lifehacker where we have to illustrate up to 15 posts every day on a limited photography budget and want to represent the full spectrum of our audience. Therefore, we are very excited about the many free photo libraries that are available that include different options or highlight under-represented groups. The most recent of these is the Gender Spectrum Collection from Broadly .
Vice-owned news site was unable to find illustrations for its articles on transgender people and non-binary people, especially those that did not contain clichés such as “transgender puts on makeup.” So they went and made some of their own. The collection guide provides advice on how to use images correctly and responsibly. They also link to several other stock photography sites, some of which we talked about earlier .
In addition to sites with a specific theme, you can find a decent selection of varied ones on the free sites Unsplash , Reshot , Pexels, and Visual Hunt . Different sites allow you to use your photos differently, so check if you can use the photo commercially and if you need to point to the photographer.
