Wash Pacifiers and Breast Pump Parts in the Dishwasher With a Lingerie Bag.
This is a well-known parenting trick: put baby socks in a zippered mesh lingerie bag before throwing them in the washer and dryer. This prevents them from getting lost or – gasp – eating . But I never thought about using the bags in the dishwasher. BigPharmaSkeptics commenter shared this tip in our post on dishwasher tricks .
Many, many baby products, including toys, are dishwasher safe. One problem is that some things are so small that they fall through the shelves.
The solution is a zippered mesh laundry bag. You can buy them at the dollar store, put small items in them, and then place the bag on the top shelf of the dishwasher. I always add a bag to any present for new parents.
What can you put in these packages? Bottle nipples, bottle caps, pacifiers, breast pump parts, valves, syringes, teething rings and just about anything small and washable. Just read the label and make sure the product is dishwasher safe. For feeding items, CDC recommends separating all parts, rinsing them under running water, placing the pieces in a mesh bag (or closed top basket) and then starting the dishwasher using hot water and a hot dry cycle or disinfection setting.
You can also buy a silicone dishwasher bag , which is larger and doesn’t stick, but a regular mesh lingerie bag will do if you’re looking for an economical option. Now your baby products will be safe and ready for the tiny person to need them.
