How to Send Quoted Replies on Facebook Messenger
It becomes much easier to manage your Facebook conversations. The social giant – when not busy breaking the security of your account – is adding a new kind of streaming response feature to all users’ conversations on Messenger. By using one of these responses, you will be able to reply to a comment with text, GIFs, images, and videos. Your post will appear below the quoted version of what you are replying to, making it easier for you and the original commentary to have a little sidebar.
The reply feature comes just weeks after Facebook began rolling out an early version of the dark theme for the mobile app, and also released an undo feature that allows users to delete a message from a chat within ten minutes of being sent.
Here’s how to use the new reply feature in your specific chat client:
How to reply to messages on Facebook Messenger
In the mobile app
- Open a conversation in the Facebook Messenger app
- Press and hold any message (including your own)
- Click on the answer arrow icon
- Enter your answer (or add gifs / images) and click “Submit”.
On the desktop
- Open the web version of Messenger
- Hover over the message
- Click the Reply icon (or the … icon if there is no Reply icon).
- Print and send your message
Unlike the conversation thread you’ll find in apps like Slack or Twitter, where replies are chained below the original message, Messenger replies will appear chronologically in the normal conversation flow. The original message will also remain in its original place in the conversation.
The answers may not be as good as a real chain of conversation, but it’s better than nothing. At the very least, you no longer need to worry about direct responses getting lost in the din of very active group chat.
