Find Out If the Infection Rate Is High in Your Hospital
In an effort to encourage hospitals to provide better care, the federal government is punishing those facilities with the highest rates of infection, readmission, and patient injury. Under the Affordable Care Act, the government is cutting Medicare payments to these hospitals by as much as 3 percent per patient, depending on the type of penalty.
Kaiser Health News has now created a search tool that allows patients to identify which hospitals near them have incurred such fines.
You can search by hospital name, city, county, or state. From there, you can view readmission rates and conditions acquired at the hospital between 2015 and 2019.
Keep in mind that the default search for the year is 2019, so if you want to see lists of hospitals fined in previous years but not in 2019, you need to select Any Year from the drop-down menu.
