Peel the Cast Iron With Aluminum Foil

By now, we all know very well that washing a cast iron skillet with soap and water is a good thing as long as you dry and re-season it as soon as possible. But soap and water don’t always cut it, and sometimes you need a little extra help getting rid of the dirt from the pan when I turn to plain aluminum foil.

The rolled foil with hot water is rough enough to scrape off stubborn food, but not abrasive enough to flush off all the seasoning. (You can also rub with salt and a damp paper towel, but I use foil to remove stubborn stains.) It’s also great for removing rust, which can easily happen to cast iron if you’re not careful. …

As with any cleaning of cast iron, aftercare is extremely important. Never leave it to soak; Dry the pan thoroughly after washing, then place it on the hotplate to evaporate any remaining moisture. Then wipe it off with a few drops of oil or spray it with an oil mist . Remove excess and then return it to its rightful place in the kitchen.
