Introduce Your Child to the Babysitting Club
If you’ve been waiting for a sign it’s time to introduce your kids to the babysitting club , Netflix has generously decided to help you.
The streaming service announced that it had ordered 10 episodes of the classic 1980s and 90s book series, turned into a TV show and then into a film. Even the simplest description worried me:
In this modern take on the beloved book series, five best friends start a babysitting business that’s full of fun and adventure.
Oh, that’s for sure .
Netflix is yet to announce when the series will be released, which means you still have time to introduce the series to teens in preparation. (Go and re-read them yourself as you do this; you know so you can talk about these stories with your child.)
If you still haven’t buried them in a drawer in your parents’ basement (I know you probably will), I can recommend that you start with this “retro set” of books 1-6 with their original covers and (bonus ! tin case.
If your child is too young for the BSC, don’t be afraid to start with Babysitting Little Sister , a spin-off about Kristy Thomas Jr.’s club president, Karen’s half-sister. The Little Sisters books are aimed at young, first-time readers and are therefore a means of accessing BSC.
There are a couple hundred books to read between the two episodes, so it’s time to start.
