How to Lock Your IPhone While Your Child Is Using the App
Sometimes our phones can be useful as a distraction for our children while we are waiting at the airport or in the doctor’s office. I rarely let my son use my phone when he was younger (and still rarely), but I kept the PBS Kids app and one or two games downloaded to it just in case.
But what I also downloaded to my phone is Amazon, Facebook, email and whatever it might accidentally get if it hit the Home button or swipe up to open the Command Center.
I wish I knew there is a way to lock your iPhone in whatever app your child is playing so that he can’t accidentally or intentionally mess with the rest of your belongings. But now, thanks to a member of the Offspring Parenting Facebook group, I know how to lock my phone.
This is how you do it
1. Select Settings> General> Accessibility> Guided Access.
2. Turn on “Guided Access” and “Accessibility Shortcut”.
3. Open the baby app and press the Home button three times in a row. (For iPhone X, triple-click the side button instead.)
4. The first time you do this, you will be prompted for a password to begin “Guided Access”.
5. To exit Guided Access, press the Home button three times again and enter your password.
We’ve already told you how to do this on your Android phone , in case you need to be reminded:
