How to Add New Dark Mode and Colorful Chrome Themes
Everyone loves dark mode. Adding a high-contrast version of “reverse-type” websites and apps has always been a success for power users, presumably because their dark palettes are more pleasing to the eye when looking at a bright screen in low light. If you’re a Dark Mode fan – or just a fan of skinning your apps – today is a big day: Google has released a set of 14 alternative color palettes for Chrome, including “Just Black,” the classic dark mode.
Sure, there are already tons of third-party skins for Chrome out there, including many Dark Mode options , but these Google skins seem especially sleek and polished. Plus, as Google has demonstrated on numerous occasions, every Google product works best when played with its counterparts.
In addition to the simple black option, there are some interesting high contrast alternatives, including Black and White, where the search bar and tab you use are light and your other tabs are dark, and high contrast colored skin, which gives a similar effect. with black, sky blue and yellow. It’s pretty wild and distracting, but it can also be my favorite. There are also some nice lighting alternatives like Banana Yellow and Rose that I thought would make text easier to read and smaller accent lines in Chrome navigation.
To install the new official Chrome skin, go to the Chrome themes page in the Google Chrome Web Store, select your skin from the list, and click Add to Chrome. A drop-down menu appears on the page with an Undo button so you can quickly turn them on and off without the hassle. If you leave the page and want to remove the skin, go to the settings menu, scroll down to “Themes” and click on “Restore to defaults.”
