Don’t Let Your Windows PC Sleep Caffeinated

I have a tremendous love for the Amphetamine Mac app because it’s a great way to keep your MacBook from sleeping (or not launching a screen saver) for any specific reason. And I am ashamed to admit that it took me a year, if not years, to realize that I had not installed such an application on my Windows desktop and laptop.

This app, Caffeinated , has only been tested on Windows 7, the author claims, but I’ve been using it on Windows 10 for the past month. Works flawlessly. Download and unzip the tiny app and you have a single executable file. Save this somewhere in a folder and create a shortcut for it in the Start menu or on your desktop (for easy access).

When you launch the application, a small coffee cup icon appears on the taskbar. You will also get a handy pop-up window detailing some of the app’s settings:

By default, caffeine is not enabled by simply downloading the app. Your system will still keep the screen saver and sleep if you configured this in Windows. If you don’t check that little Activate on Startup button in the Caffeinated preferences window, you will need to right-click the icon and tell the app how long you want the juice to drain (from five minutes to indefinitely).

Whichever you choose, Caffeinated will keep your system awake for as long as you set it up. This is a useful little tool if you don’t want your system’s power settings to go off when you give a presentation or leave your desk for a short while. The trigger function of amphetamine is admittedly more reliable, but caffeine – like a quick shot of espresso – does it without fuss.
