Mix This Crazy Looking Citrus Straight Into Your Booze
I love limoncello, but this is without a doubt a liqueur with a capital letter. There’s nothing wrong with a candy-like drink, but it’s not exactly refreshing. Ironically, the key to drinking citrusy fresh vegetables isn’t in the lemon, but in the mostly pulpless, eerie citrus valleys.
The Buddha’s Hand, so named because it looks like a hand with (too many fingers), is a fragrant fruit with almost all the rind and heart in it, making it good for infusion (and flavoring) and more. It has a bright fresh taste and aroma that almost reads like a heavenly citrus scent, but a direct bite will be unpleasant. (I’ve tried.) You can throw a bunch of severed hands in the booze and let it hang for a bit, or you can speed up the process by using my new favorite brewer : a blender . The blades quickly draw out aromatic and aromatic oils, reducing the infusion time to a few minutes. A little sugar is added to finish it off, but we are far from the sugary level of the cello. To make the spirit of the hand of Buddha, you will need:
- 375 milliliters of vodka or gin
- About half of the Buddha’s hand, washed and sliced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
Throw everything into a blender and beat until there are no large chunks of citron left. (Want to watch me do this with my own eyes? Check out our Instagram story .) Strain through a sieve to remove larger pieces, then strain again through a coffee filter into a clean bottle. Store in the refrigerator for several weeks or in the freezer indefinitely. Try it with a martini or a little soda.
