You Can Look at the Tape Through the Frosted Glass
This is a trick that can be used both for good and for evil. You may have a good reason to look through frosted glass, or you may be Penn Badgley’s character in You . The hack works anyway.
Redditor u / UnableNefariousness , who I assume is a decent citizen who would never use this hack for nefarious purposes, shared a video from r / BlackMagicFuckery. This is the perfect title for this subreddit if the video is a good example of its content. On it we see someone rubbing a piece of transparent tape against a piece of frosted glass. The ribbon forms a perfect transparent rectangle through the frost:

How the hell does it work? Here’s the science from u / piterrogulski :
The matte effect is created by the fact that the surface becomes rough – it is no longer flat, so the light passing through the glass is scattered in all directions. Gluing a tape on it fills the surface with glue, making it smooth – the light can travel in a more or less straight line.
If you are planning to examine all of your bathroom windows to see if anyone was peeping at you, there is good news from u / Mr0lsen . The uneven side is usually facing:
Only works on the textured side, which is almost always on the same side as what should be darkened.
So maybe this is more of a gimmick for people who like to look outside while taking a shower, or discreetly checking who is behind the door. Sorry, vines.
