Explore the “secret” Subcategories of Netflix on This Site
If you’re looking for something new to watch on Netflix, the streaming service’s built-in categories usually do a pretty good job of helping you navigate the options.
That said, sometimes you’re not just in the mood for an Action & Adventure movie, you want a movie that includes theft, or perhaps something that could also end up in the SciFi bucket. There are Netflix-Codes for situations like this.
Netflix-Codes displays not only the main categories that you see on the Netflix website, but also the subcategories within them that you don’t see. For example, while you may only see Comedy as an option, Netflix has effectively broken films into slapstick, anime, horror, dark films, musicals, political and sports. That’s right guys, you have a choice.
Netflix-Codes shows you what all the categories are, as well as how many movies are available in each subcategory. When you find one you like, you can click on it to jump to that specific category on Netflix to see what’s available. You can also enter the code that appears next to it into your browser after the traditional Netflix URL (e.g. www.netflix.com/browse/genre/CODE HERE).
Since it’s browser-based, this should all be happening on your computer and not on a TV box like Apple TV or Roku.
It might have been nice that these were actually options on Netflix, as it obviously took a while to sort through them anyway. That said, while it’s a bit of a hassle, Netflix Codes can be a great tool to have in your pocket when you’re looking for the perfect movie and you’re short on it.
