Learn All About Football With This Alexa Skill
Football is the only sport that I have never really enjoyed. I’m usually a friend trying to gather troops to attend baseball and hockey games, and in my home state of North Carolina, basketball is a religion … but football has always shied away from me. I guess it’s just not my sport.
This means that when I join friends to watch a game, I end up being the person who asks what a particular term means or what the deal is with a particular player. Now there is an app for that. Or rather, a skill.
The NFL Beginner’s Guide is an Alexa skill created by the National Football League to help newbies and regular newbies like me learn about football. Once enabled, the skill can answer basic questions, for example: “How many players are in the team?” And “What’s the difference between early backing and wide receiver?” as well as more specific little things like “How tall is Aaron Rogers?”
The skill contains information about rules, penalties, scoring, commentator lingo, previous Super Bowls, team formation, and other basic trivia. The idea is that if you have a football-related question while watching a game, you can get a quick (and accurate) answer.
During the NFL postseason, the skill will also have a weekly 5-minute podcast called The Game Plan, which prepares viewers for the next round of playoff games.
It is intended to be used when watching NFL games, but it can come in handy when watching everyone who is playing, especially if you are constantly asking questions.
