On Dry January Ask Yourself These Questions
If you’ve been celebrating all of December, dry January can be a refreshing change. You’ll love staying at home, sleeping better, and saving money, especially if you can tie your friends up so they don’t always invite you for drinks at night.
But “Dry January” in itself is not a solution to the problem; it’s a way to ask yourself a question. And here’s the question: how much has drinking influenced my life?
When you take a break from alcohol, ask yourself the following questions:
- Am I sleeping better? Aside from partying late at night, alcohol itself interferes with sleep .
- Do I eat better? Alcohol is full of empty calories, and the circumstances surrounding alcohol consumption often prompt snacking.
- Am I saving money? It’s time to find out how much alcohol affects your spending.
- Do I have less hangover? The number must be zero. Is it much less than usual?
- I like it more? Your evenings with a beer after work will be different from evenings without it. It’s kind of a hazy question, but: are you happier?
If you don’t drink much, you may not notice much of a difference at all. But if you feel great when you don’t drink, you may have drunk too much. When the month is over, consider how much you really want to drink now that you know how drinking alcohol affects various areas of your life.
