How to Download All Your Instagram Photos and Unsubscribe From Facebook Permanently
The discovery last week that Facebook is sharing what you do on the site with other companies such as Microsoft and Amazon has prompted some of us to consider (perhaps not the first time) removing Facebook and other company-owned apps like like Instagram and WhatsApp.
If you delete Instagram, your photos will stay with it. That is, unless you back up first.
All in all, downloading your Instagram photos and creating a backup is a good idea, even if you’re not going to leave the platform. However, if you are considering leaving, then this is something you definitely want to do. Here’s how to do it:
First, launch the Instagram app on your phone and then click the profile button at the bottom right of the page. From there, click the Menu button (three rows stacked on top of each other) in the upper right corner of the screen and select Settings from the drop-down menu (it’s at the very bottom).
Towards the middle of the next menu, you will see the Load Data list. Select this and then click “Request Download”.
The download will not happen instantly. Instead, Instagram will send you an email when your photos are officially ready to upload, and will include a link to get them. The process can take up to 48 hours, so be prepared to wait.
Once you’ve backed up everything, you can freely delete your account without worrying about losing your favorite picture.
