Transform Your Amazon Echo Into a White Noise Machine With This Skill
Every night at about 2 am the gentleman who lives above me decides to move some piece of furniture and then throw about 7000 pennies at it – at least I convinced myself that he does just that. Whatever it is, it is amazing and constantly wakes me up, but it is not so important that he “even imagine” what I am talking about.
All that can be said, I am now a big fan of white noise.
We bought a white noise car that now sits next to the bed (along with a huge fan) to help block my wonderful roommate.
This week I came across another great alternative: using Echo. The Alexa skill “ Sleep and Relaxation Sounds ” was named one of the Best Alexa Skills of the Year on Amazon.
While I’m not 100% sure I want to put Echo in our bedroom, this skill can come in handy on other occasions, such as when I’m trying to work and the same neighbor is tap-dancing in his wooden shoes, or there is a distracting bustle outside.
Once turned on, you activate sounds by saying, “Alexa, have the sleep sounds play [the sound you want to hear].” By default, the skill will play a sound until you tell it to stop. You can also set a sleep timer. For example, you can say “Alexa, stop in 4 hours” when the sound is playing on a schedule at a specific time.
And there are LOTS of sounds. Below is a complete list:
– Thunderstorms
– Rain
– Ocean waves
– Babbling stream
– fireplace
– Airplane
– Fan
– Oscillating fan
– Town
– a tropical forest
– Train

– frogs

– Cat

– Brown noise
– White noise
– Wind

If you have your own awesome neighbor or are just looking for new meditation sounds, this could be a great Alexa skill in your back pocket.
