On This Site, You Can Quickly Find Out What Visa Requirements Apply to Each Country.

Earlier this year, I went to Australia for the first time. I booked my tickets months in advance, made sure I had all the required power adapters, and headed to the airport on the day of departure – only to find out that US citizens do indeed need a visa to enter the country. Oops.

Luckily for me, getting an Australian Expedited Visa is not difficult. I was able to apply for a visa at the Quantas counter at the airport and board the plane as if I had applied for a visa months before. However, if I were traveling elsewhere, things might not be so simple.

It definitely felt bad for me, but it’s worth knowing where you can travel and how long you can stay. And the answers to these questions differ depending on where you got your passport from. For example, what I can do with my American passport is a little different from what my friend Tim can do with his German.

This week I stumbled upon the Visalist site that makes it easy to learn all of this. It lists the current visa requirements for more than 238 different countries, as well as information on what you will need when traveling in each of them.

To use it, you just need to indicate where your passport is from. The site creates a map from this color, which shows all the places you can travel to and everything that is required to enter the country.

You can filter items by visa waiver, visa on arrival, e-visa, required visa and visa refusal. You can also filter by location.

If you know where you want to go, you can also search for that particular place (or click it on the map) to learn more about its specific requirements.

For example, clicking on the United Kingdom will tell you that you do not need a visa, but you can only stay in the country for 6 months with a US passport. There is also information on the type of currency used there, whether you can find an ATM machine, what kind of power adapter you need, and which side of the road the locals are driving on.

If you are thinking of traveling abroad next year, the site can be very helpful in figuring out where you can go and what you will need when you get there.
