Plunge Into the Holiday Atmosphere With a Bitter Sling
Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are making an alcoholic drink that will help you plunge into the atmosphere of the holiday – the Bitter Sling.
This cocktail, which was first brought to my attention by the Barman on the loose , is essentially an old-fashioned brandy. While not really a Christmas theme, something about a barrel-aged brandy with all its warm notes of baking spice feels festive. If your adult Christmas wish is a drink that screams holiday, you can always garnish it with a little fresh nutmeg. (This will increase the number of ingredients to four, but you have done well this year; you deserve it!) To make it, you will need:
- 2 ounces barrel-aged brandy (brown)
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup
- 2 drops of Angostura bitter
Pour everything into a glass filled with ice and stir until the glass is cold enough. Transfer to a low ball of ice (or one large cube). Garnish with fresh nutmeg if desired.
