This Is the Last Week for a Nationwide Open Recruitment at the ACA
The ACA market is still around, you can still get subsidized insurance if you earn less than 400 percent of the federal poverty level, and it’s always better to take a closer look than letting the system automatically enroll you. Here’s the catch: in most states, you only have until Saturday.
Open registration for Marketplace plans (“Obamacare”) in most states ends on December 15, 2018. Here are the exceptions compiled by ACASignups.net :
- In Rhode Island, the last day of open admission is December 31st.
- In Minnesota, the last day is January 13, 2019.
- In California and Colorado, it ends on January 15, 2019.
- In Massachusetts, the last day is January 23, 2019.
- In New York and the District of Columbia, the last day is January 31, 2019.
Like last year , Silver plans are the most expensive, so Gold plans are a great deal, while Bronze plans are cheap and may even be free with subsidies. If you are confident that you are not eligible for subsidies (if your household is more than 400 percent of the federal poverty level), search for an “over-the-counter” silver plan on the insurance company’s website.
Be sure to shop even if you’re pretty sure you know which plan you need. You may be eligible for a grant this year even if you were not eligible for a grant last year and plans may have changed in the meantime. Whatever you do, do it now – time is running out. You can purchase plans or find free personal assistance at healthcare.gov .
