How to Deal With Coworker Envy
If you have an ounce of ambition in your profession, there will be times when other people get what you want: promotions, accolades, press.
This feeling does not belong to just one profession; If more than one person is involved in what you are doing, you have probably seen that they have achieved some of the success that you think you deserve. And perhaps you will, but if you sit there jealous and resentful, you will not achieve it. Radreads shared some basic tips on how to keep envy from controlling you, because it definitely won’t improve your performance.
Admit that you are jealous
Usually, when someone gets what we want, we analyze why they don’t deserve it. While I REALLY think some people I know have received support from wealthy parents or someone else, nagging in my head about it won’t change them or my circumstances. Realize that you are feeling jealous instead of indulging in an endless list of “unfair” ones. Writing them down in your mind will not make you feel better, but instead focus on the most negative aspect of the situation.
Think why you are jealous
Skip the tricks of wealthy parents and really explore what is eating you away in this situation. Jealousy is often associated with feelings of inferiority, Radreds said. Think about what really bothers you:
Are you jealous of being trapped in an unhealthy job or unhealthy relationship? In this case, envy can distract from decisiveness. Is your jealousy driven by competition and status anxiety?
There are aspects of competition in the workplace with real consequences such as money or job security. These worries will not disappear if you direct them to resentment against a specific person. When you feel jealous of others’ accomplishments, think about the things that inspire you in your work instead. Hopefully this is not just an external check. Feel love
Then you need to feel love for the object of your envy; they have things happening that you don’t even know about. They, too, probably wanted what they didn’t get. And in the end, it’s better to celebrate someone’s accomplishment than to be angry. Activate your compassion, the only cure for envy.
