December Fitness Challenge: Yoga
December can be a busy time of the year, so we’ve left our most relaxing, deepest and most serious issue for last.
Yoga can be seriously practiced, so don’t feel like we are relaxing. You decide if you want to relax this month or force yourself to try difficult poses or sweaty vinyasa flows.
Most yoga teachers will tell you that it all starts with breathing: if you can be aware of your breath and your body, then almost everything you do (even sitting still) is yoga. Add poses to give your body and mind more work. Advanced poses can require a lot of flexibility, strength, and careful technique, but many are available to absolute beginners .
So, take some time to do yoga this week. You can go to a class or, if you are an experienced yogi, just pull out the mat and work on what you need to work on. But for most of us, the easiest way to get started is to find a good daily routine or video that we can follow. A few points to consider:
- This 3 minute stream you can follow at your table
- This is a 7 minute relaxation session .
- 30 Minute Yoga Workout Without Equipment
- These guides to 30 days of yoga ; you can make a video every day, or choose several to experiment with.
We’ll be back on Friday with some more ideas for developing your own yoga practice and getting the most out of it. Until then, leave your questions and comments below. What do you want to work on this month? What obstacles do you expect?
